Oil, acrylic and sand on canvas.
30x30cm A study into layers and textures. The rough side is thicker, but has fewer layers, and took far less time, than the smooth. It's not a great photograph -- slightly blurred and you in no way get the gloss and depth of colour on the right. I painted the picture as a wedding present, and only took a snapshot of it in my kitchen under a flourescent light the night I packed it up. As for the title: last year I did a piece of work which involved friends choosing numbers. The two people for whom the painting was made chose 30 and 66. (30+66 = 96). The left-hand side has six layers, the right sixteen (9*16 = 96) It works equally well either way up, like the number 96. The numbers 30 and 66 are painted into the first layers, hidden forever. |
